Homework Policy
Homework is assigned on a daily basis. Students are expected to complete homework on time. Each day I check that the homework is complete, and we then correct the work at the beginning of each class period. For this reason I do not accept late homework. Homework is worth five points each day.
In addition to the five homework points, each student is able to earn five points daily for class participation. These five points are based on being prepared and participating in classroom discussions. Students will lose class participation points by not being prepared and/or being a distraction to the class.
Completed homework, being prepared for class, and contributing to class discussions are all vital parts of successful learning.

Daily Reading - RHR
Students are required to read for 20 minutes each day (Monday - Friday) and to have a parent/guardian sign their Red Hot Record on a nightly basis. As homework, this is checked at the beginning of each class period.
Literature Response Writings - LRW
Students are to write one personal response each week. This written response is a two paragraph response reflecting outside-of-class reading. Take the time to stop and think about what you have read over the past week. The first paragraph is a short summary of what has been read. This paragraph should include the book title, character information and plot points. The second paragraph is the personal response to the piece of literature. This paragraph reflects the analysis or critical thinking that has taken place. There is a list of prompts in your binder that may be used to help you write about your thinking. LRWs are due at the beginning of class on Thursday.
