10 ways to support your child in Language Arts
- Help your child with organizational skills. Ask to see his or her binder. Show your child how to purge his or her backpack and locker once a week.
- Review planners and JupiterGrades.com with your child. Help calendar out long term projects and reports.
- Ask your child what we are studying in class and tell him or her that is important and useful.
- Encourage your child to communicate directly with me.
- Reinforce that honesty and integrity are paramount, and that doing the work correctly and fully is for your child’s own good.
- Help me teach your child to be accountable. Refuse to help your child find excuses and avoid the consequences of late work, procrastination, and computer glitches.
- Ask your child to practice presentations in front of you.
- Encourage your child to be proactive about contacting me as early as possible when he or she misses a class in order to get caught up right away.
- Encourage your child to keep going if they make a misstep – this is all a learning process.
- Encourage a love of reading and writing. Remind your child that reading critically and writing clearly are lifelong skills worth a best effort.
