The kids worked hard and raised $493! The bingo money combined with the online donations brings us to 20% of our $5000 goal. We have two fundraisers coming up: the class contest and "every penny counts." The class contest will begin the week before winter break. The class that donates the most money will get a pizza party and the second place class will get an extra recess. The amazing Jess Avila will be organizing the "every penny counts" fundraiser. More on this later. If anyone has an idea for a fundraiser they would like to organize please contact me at [email protected]. Great job 6th graders!
Thank you to Vanessa Sutter and Mary Robinson for all of your help!
Classroom Updates
Math and Science
This week we worked on our unit on integers. It has been somewhat of challenge to understand negative and positive numbers but, we are learning to preserve through difficult problems, as well as understanding how to learn from our mistakes. Next week, we will continue our integers unit and finishing our science unit on density and convection.
This week, we also learned different math games to help us build proficiency in math facts. We played circles and stars, multiplication war, product tic-tact-toe, and nimble calculator. We, as a class, discussed the importance of practicing math facts the same way athletes practice their foundation skills. I will be sending home a letter next week containing instruction for these games, as well as some others we haven't played in class.
Next week, we will start a new Ten Marks log. I will be sending home letters with parent log ins so you can go online and see your student's progress on Ten Marks.

Humanities
We completed our persuasive essays! Yea! According to the students they learned a lot about writing and about a topic that they care about. I'm looking forward to reading their final drafts.
Greek and Latin Root Quiz will be on Wednesday.
We will be back to social studies next week as well as starting our next PBL - Running a Business.
