ROSICRUCIAN Egyptian Museum
We will be heading to the Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum on Thursday, March 2nd to explore the many amazing Egyptian Artifacts. For this field trip the students have been divided in to two groups - now known as the Presidents and the Pharaohs.
The Presidents are students whose last name starts with A - J. The Pharaohs are students whose name starts with K - L
The Pharaohs are leaving a little bit sooner than the Presidents, but all students will be arriving back to school about the same time, approximately noon. Remaining time will be spent exploring the Museum gardens either before or after the 2 hour museum tour.
Please sign up to drive via the Volunteer Spot that I have set up.

Thank you to Cinda from BooksMart!
The students were able to hear from Cinda, owner of Booksmart, all about running a small business and in particular about running a bookstore. The students had some great questions to ask about logistics, marketing, and customer service. All in hopes of helping them run their own successful bookstore. The students are excited to put this new knowledge to use.
Relay for Life Update
The 6th grade RFL team rocks! The first week of the "pennies for a cure" fund raiser brought in $195 and we have a huge bag of coins that haven't been counted yet! There are still bags at school if your child would like to participate. The class fundraising contest ends this week and we will continue to sell popcorn. If you would like to help with the popcorn sales please contact Vanessa Sutter. Keep collecting pennies! We will have "new" fundraisers after the break. Just a reminder - if anyone has an idea for a fundraiser please contact Mary Robinson.
Classroom Updates
Math and Science
This week in Math and Science, we concluded our unit on integers. We finished a test and completed Integer stories, which gave students the opportunity to learn how to create equations and word problems using integers. Each story was unique and gave students many different ways to visualize integers. When we return from break, we will be conducting a "Science Week" where we will conduct many different experiments to conclude our science unit on convection. Have a wonderful break!

Humanities
We have spent a large portion of this week working on our Bookstore. The students' first job was to fill out a job application and then over the course of three days we came up with a store name, The Purple Balloon Bookstore, and wrote a mission statement.
Each class is marketing to a different demographics of our school community. The Romans are selling to the middle school and adults: the Greeks are selling to Kinders thru 3rd grade, and the Egyptians are selling to 4th thru 6th grade.
Within each class we have 6 departments with specific responsibilities (and costs). They include:
Marketing: All Advertising

The Purple BAlloon BookStore Mission Statement
The Purple Balloon Bookstore spreads the joy of reading by offering a great selection of quality used and new books carefully selected by experts at very affordable prices. We value respect, honesty, and kindness. We always offer service with a smile. The Purple Balloon Bookstore strives to make our customers happy with their purchases and then donates the money from book sales to a good cause. As a non-profit company, we donate all profits to the American Cancer Society to help fight cancer. At the same time as raising money for a charity, we are recycling well-loved books. We are building a better world one book at a time.
We also started reading our next class novel, Mrs. Frisby and the rats of NIMH. This is a wonderful fantasy tale that corresponds with our learning of what is needed for a group to establish a civilization. It also contains a story within a story.
On Tuesday, February 14, we enjoyed our Publishing Party. Thank you for the many yummy treats! The students enjoyed the snacks as well as sharing and hearing each others' writing.

SPANISH
We are working on "prepsiciones", "Ser and Estar" and "Indirect object pronouns" for Spanish class. All of these objectives are directly linked. We will work on a project in class where all objectives will be used in a 3D scenery.
Also, it is very important that your student works on Duolingo at home at least 3 times per week so that they will not fall behind. If you can't log on to Duolingo at home, sent me an email so that I can give you instructions. Next week will be perfect time for them to catch up while in the car on the way to Tahoe!!
