MATH/SCIENCE
This week in math, we worked on understanding greatest common factors and learned how to use generic rectangles as a multiplication strategy. We also finished chapter two in our CPM textbooks.
Next week, we will have our second test of the year. This test will be on Chapter 2 from the textbook and will include, area and perimeter, generic rectangles, and greatest common factors. I will send home a study guide on Tuesday, and the test will be on Friday. We will also be conducting a science experiment throughout next week.

SOCIAL STUDIES
We enjoyed a two day trip down the Nile River aboard a feluka and accompanied by our very own tour guide. We were able to visit four tourist sites to learn about the ancient acheological feats. Our stops included the Great Pyramid of Giza, the White Chapel, the great temple at Dayr al-Bahri, and Abu Simbel. We also learned of the four pharaohs that had these monuments constructed. After each stop, the students wrote postcards detailing what they were able to see and learn at the various sites.
There will be a test on Chapter 8 The Ancient Egyptian Pharaohs on Tuesday, Dec. 13. This will be a closed book test. The students should spend time reviewing the chapter including the three periods of Ancient Egypt, the four pharaohs and the four monuments.

LANGUAGE ARTS
The students spent a lot of time designing and creating their sets for their literature circle project. In Tech they are learning how to code their camera-holding-robot to follow a line. The students are busy determining the placements of their sets so that the camera is able to film and snap stills in one continuous run. There are a lot of parts to this project! The students will be experimenting with various possibilities next Monday.
