Publishing Party!
To celebrate our classroom authors we will be having a publishing party on Tuesday. We did postpone this celebration for a week, so that it would coincide with Valentine's Day. In 6th grade we do not typically celebrate this holiday in the classroom, but the students really wanted to bring in some treats. So it made perfect sense to postpone the Publishing Party. The students will be sharing their writing while enjoying a few snacks. If you can sign up to bring juice, fruit, popcorn, goldfish, or a sweet treat please click the button below:
Classroom Updates
Humanities
We have studied the origins of Judaism as party of our Ancient Egyptian studies. The students worked in groups creating ancient scrolls to depict the historical leaders Abraham, Moses, and Kings David and Soloman. The students took an open book Reading Challenge on Chapter 11 on Friday.
We will be visiting the Rosicrucian Museum on Thursday, March 2. We have two tours one beginning at 9:00 am and one beginning at 9:30 am. I will be organizing the students into two groups this week and sending out a link for drivers to sign up. Please look for this email. Both groups return to school by noon in time for lunch.
We are setting up a bookstore! Our next project will be setting up a bookstore and running a business. Last summer I collected hundreds of used books in anticipation of this project. Each class will become their own department within our bookstore. They will be applying for positions in marketing, organization, retail, engineering, human resources, or accounting departments. Cinda from Booksmart will be visiting this week to talk about running a small business and answering student's questions. This bookstore will be opened to our school community and all proceeds will be going to Relay for Life.
This week we will beginning our next classroom novel, Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH. This is always a class favorite!
