Wow! What a week we had!
I would just like to say that we teach some amazing kids! They were wonderful on Wednesday. They were patient waiting for hot lunches, they listened to their teachers and just genuinely were flexible and agreeable to whatever was asked of us to maintain calm and safety. Thank you!
Thank you, Mrs. Lattin!
All the students spent some time on Friday working on creating beautiful and inspiring handprints that will be decoupaged onto book shelves for our Cheetah Creation. Mrs. Lattin has been working on this project for months already. We are very grateful for all of her hard work, and we cannot wait to see the finished projects!
Science Camp Drivers
We are there! Thank you! It is always better to be over prepared with drivers as many times things come up and drivers need to cancel.
Below is the list of drivers that I have. Please look it over to make sure that I have correctly recorded the information.

Our Fall Goal Setting Conferences are just right around the corner. If you have not yet signed up please do so today! Visit Volunteer Spot at:
When you look at the signup sheet, you will notice that conferences are scheduled for every ten minutes. The time you sign up for indicates your meeting time with Ms. Daprile. You will start in room 5 and meet with Ms. Daprile for ten minutes. You will then move to room 122 to meet with Ms. Brewer for ten minutes. Please allow 20 minutes for your conference.
If you have more than one child, sign up for one spot per child.
As this is a goal setting meeting, we highly encourage the students to attend.

Literature Response Writings
Our first Literature Response Writings will be due Next Thursday. This due date has been changed a few times. From Thursday to Tuesday, and now back to Thursday. While Tuesday is better for me in terms of reading 73 responses, Thursday, long term, is better for the students. So Thursday it is. More information can be found in the Language Arts Section under the Homework tab.
Breakfast and Books Book Club
All sixth grade students are invited to join our Breakfast and Book Club. Breakfast and Book Club is completely voluntary and students are welcome to join for one book or all books. Our first book is The Phantom Tollbooth by Norton Jester.
It tells the story of a bored young boy named Milo who receives a magic tollbooth, and having nothing better to do, drives through it in his toy car, It is here that he enters the Kingdom of Wisdom meeting many wonderful and strange characters.
Our first Breakfast and Books Club meeting will be Tuesday, October 18 at 7:15 in room 105. My only requirement is that students that plan on attending do their very best to read the entire book. This allows for the best book discussions. Breakfast will include items such as muffins, yogurt, fruit, cheesy egg casserole, and juice.

Classroom Updates
Math and Science
This week in math we worked on understanding multiple representations of quantities. We looked different variations of pennies and tried to arrange them in different ways so others could easily see how many pennies were on the desk. We also began a Ten Marks homework log, that is to be filled out and completed with 4 personal assignments by the due date written on the paper.
In science, we experimented with how clouds are formed by creating clouds in a jar using hairspray, hot water, and some ice cubes.

Language Arts
Almost all students have complete the first DRA of the school year. This reading assessment gives me an indication of the depth of each student's reading and their ability to fully articulate their thinking. I will be sharing the results with students and parents at our Fall Goal Setting Conference. We have continued with reading Boy of the Painted Cave. Next week we will be tying this novel to the Hero's Journey.
Students will be having a quiz next Thursday on prepositions. They will be writing a list of 20 prepositions for me. Students need to be able to easily identify prepositions in order to identify prepositional phrases.
The students have enjoyed the following video to help them memorize 27 prepositions.

Social Studies
We have looked at how the discovery of farming has dramatically affected early man and the development of civilizations. The students have loved playing Hunters and Gatherers. On Wednesday, I had one team record an epic survival rate of all clan members living for 15 weeks! That takes great strategy and a handful of luck.
