Today our fundraising ‘kicked off’ with a bake sale at school. Thank you to everyone that provided muffins, granola and popcorn. We made a profit of $331.01!!! Awesome job for our first fundraiser.
Ask your child if they signed up to be on one of the organizing teams - we have a planning team, a fundraising team, and a luminary team. We are hoping that the students will do most of the planning, organizing, and preparation for this event - what an amazing learning experience. We are hoping that everyone will get involved in some way.
Classroom Updates
MATH/SCIENCE
We have survived a week of assessments! Students took the annual MARS assessments. The tasks were difficult and it was great to see the perseverance and determination students showed deciphering these tasks.
We also took practice Smarter Balance Interim tests. Information from these assessments will help us prepare for the real thing coming in April.
On a more exciting note . . .!
*We begin the Stock Market Game on Monday! Students will be working in "investment groups" negotiating tactics, strategies and stock purchases!
*The Iditarod Race is in full swing! Jeff King (no relationship to our King family) is in first place! Delci's aunt just happened to be in Alaska for the ceremonial race andDelci shared this email with us:
Steve and I witnessed a fantastic start to the Iditarod in downtown Anchorage Saturday. The sled dogs were leaping in harness and baying and getting their little felt booties on their wiggly paws while we talked to mushers and their volunteer crews before the race. Then we lined up on 4th Street by the Start Banner and cheered each team on. This was the ceremonial start to the Last Great Race on Earth. One thousand miles, from Willow (north of Anchorage) all the way to Nome on the Bering Sea in as little as 8 days. These dogs put mere ultra-marathoners to shame. Unreal. And the best part? Seeing how much the mushers love and respect their dogs.
Then yesterday off to Fairbanks we went. No sooner did we get to our ‘cabin in the woods’ than our hosts pointed out a faint smudge of green in the dark sky to the north. Over the next 3.5 hours, the light bloomed into a fantastic show. We stood in the wind on a frozen river, oohing and aahing and pointing to the next part of the sky to light up.
