Csmh Leadership class helps community solutions
Our seventh and eighth graders are lending a helping hand to COMMUNITY SOLUTIONS. They are collecting hygiene products that will distributed to young people in need. Sixth graders can earn extra credit points by helping this drive! Bring in a product next week and you will be able to earn extra credit in EITHER Math or Language Arts or Social Studies (your choice)! Bring in some deodorant, toothpaste, soap, toothbrush, etc. and help somebody in need and your grade! Thank you for your help!
Thank You to our PArent Drivers!
Thank you to Mr. Rizzi, Mr. Gordon, Mrs. Perrier, Mrs. Stiltz, Mrs. Thomas, Mrs. Wilson, Mrs. Fullington, Grandma Calderon, Mrs. Huffman, Mr. Lacerda, Mrs. Lang, Mr. Newquist, Mr. Stocksick, and Mrs. Mayes for helping transport our children to and from the play. We could not take these field trips without our wonderful parents!
Math
We have been working on different ways to organize and display information. Students have worked with Dot Plots, Bar Graphs, Venn Diagrams and are starting to work with Stem and Plot graphs. This is a fun unit of study.

Language Arts
We finished listening to the story, The Cay, just in time for the play. The students seemed to enjoy the play and made many connections between the theater production and the novel. They were very impressed with the actor that played Phillip as he was about their same age! He had a lot of lines memorized combined with some excellent acting skills. I was most impressed with our students as they were very respectful audience members. Kudos to them for being so polite!

Our literature circle groups have been established and the books have been passed out. I do try my best to honor each students request and give them one of their top choices. But it is not always possible. The good things is that every book is a great book. I hope each student enjoys the book that they are assigned to read. Our next literature circle meeting is Tuesday, Nov. 4. Each group knows how many pages they need to read between now and Tuesday, and each group member knows what job it is that they are responsible for for that next meeting. They are to read the assigned pages and complete a role sheet to bring to class on Tuesday.
One class was able to get started on writing personal narratives this week, the other class will start on Monday. Both classes had an opportunity to write and then share scary stories while sitting around our class "campfire" as they munched on s'mores in a bag. This was a fun way to finish up a Friday afternoon on Halloween.

Social Studies
We boarded our class felucca (an Egyptian sailing boat) and traveled up (in a southernly direction) the Nile River. We visited four ancient Egyptian monuments: the Great Pyramid of Giza, the White Chapel, the temple of Dayr al-Bahri, and the temple of Abu Simbel. We also learned of the four pharaohs that were responsible for creating these magnificent monuments. At each stop we wrote a postcard that told about each visit. To complete the chapter each student then wrote a four paragraph friendly letter detailing their remarkable trip down the Nile. Any student that did not turn in their letter to me on Friday, needs to complete it this weekend and turn it into me at the beginning of class on Monday.
There will be a test on chapter 8 - The Ancient Egyptian Pharaohs on Wednesday, Nov. 5.

The NED Show
On Wednesday the sixth graders had a treat when they headed over to the multipurpose room for a school assembly to watch the NED show. This is where they met Ned, learned about how to be a champion, and were enthralled with the yo-yo skills of our presenter.
