Field Trip to the Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum - Wednesday, Jan. 6
We will be headed to the Rosicrucian Museum on the Wednesday we return to school for a field trip to see some amazing ancient Egyptian artifacts. I was so happy to have so many parents sign up to be drivers! Unfortunately, many of the volunteers have not yet been fingerprinted, as per our new school policy all field trip drivers need to be fingerprinted first. I emailed parents that have signed up to drive and have not been fingerprinted to remind them of this important fact. I know this is a very busy time of year, please arrange to get fingerprinted at your earliest convenience. The school form that needs to be completed by the printing agency is downloadable from our school website. The school is notified win prints are cleared. Thank you again for all of your support!
Classroom Updates:
MATH/SCIENCE
A study packet was sent home with each sixth grader on Thursday to study for the test on JANUARY 12TH. Concepts include work with decimals and fractions. There will also be review questions on integer concepts.
FYI PARENTS:
Some "language changes" that will help you help your child:
FRACTIONS GREATER THAN ONE - Formerly called "Top Heavy Fractions" or "Improper Fractions". Sometimes, we need to work with fractions that are in a form where the denominator is bigger than the numerator, so we don't call them "improper"anymore.
SIMPLIFYING FRACTIONS - Formerly called "Reducing Fractions". We are not changing the fraction to a different amount . . . we are just making it easier to form a picture of the fraction in our mind. For example: It is easier to make a picture of 1/3 of a pizza in your head than 5/15 of a pizza!
INEQUALITY SIGNS - Once called "Greater Than or Less Than"

This week we have continued reading Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH as well as continued with our study of Ancient Egypt.
There is no homework over vacation. Although I hope that everyone will have some time to enjoy reading a good book :) Enjoy the time with family and friends.
