Two exciting Learning Opportunities:
FREE FAMILY LEARNING NIGHTS AT LEVI STADIUM
Through our Family Learning Nights, attendees will gain a better understanding of how STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics) is intricately connected to our world by actively engaging in hands-on, investigative learning within a STEM-focused curriculum that is uniquely tied to the game of football.
In addition to making families aware of how and what their children are learning, the other common element in each Family Learning Night is…fun! We encourage families to have fun together, whether they are doing a project-based activity or exploring the 49ers Museum. The program is available to families who have children in kindergarten through 8th grade.
PROGRAM DATES & TOPICS: 1. January 9, 2015: Engineering in Football
2. February 13, 2015: Forces in Football
3. March 13, 2015: Football H20
4. April 10, 2015: Engineering in Football
5. May 15, 2015: Forces in Football
6. June 12, 2015: Football H20

How To Learn Math for Students . . .
Have you (or your child) signed up to be a Stanford student? There is a free, online course being offered to students by Jo Boaler called, "How to Learn Math For Students." The staff at CSMH have been using Jo Boaler's work to help guide and develop our math curriculum. On Tuesday I attended a conference where Boaler was the keynote speaker and informed us about this on line class available to students. I hope you all take advantage of this opportunity. There are six sessions and several of our sixth graders have already worked through the first three classes.

SPANISH:
Hola, we are working on conjugating -ir verbs in 6th grade. We will be learning about regular and irregular verbs and stem changes. Students will be working on learning these conjugations in class. They will be tested on the meaning and conjugation of these verbs on the 18th of December. I would appreciate them learning the meaning of each verb at home.
As always, you can reach me at [email protected].
MATH:
Students took a quiz today. Grades are posted on Jupiter. They will be returned on Monday. All students are required to have this quiz signed and returned with corrections if needed. This is due on Friday, December 12th.

Language Arts
This week the students finished and turned in their personal narrative essays. I am looking forward to reading these stories. The students have worked really hard on them!
We enjoyed three Literature Circle presentations on Friday, and we look forward to the rest next week. Below is the movie trailer for Esperanza Rising. Enjoy!

Social Studies
We concluded chapter nine, Daily Lie in Ancient Egypt, and are moving right along to the Origins of Judaism next week. The students will be making paper-mache Egyptian masks in art in two short weeks. This is a wonderful art project to complement our studies of Ancient Egypt.
