Let Our Random Acts of Kindness Begin
One of our school goals this year is to build a more caring and kind environment. We have talked about Random Acts of Kindness as a sixth grade class and have started talking about ways we can show appreciation and concern for our family members, school mates, and community members. On Wednesday we wrote surprise notes that we hid in our school's library books. Students picked a favorite book to tuck these notes inside of to surprise a future reader of that book. We are anxious to hear what happens!

MATH/SCIENCE
Today we worked on finishing up our investigation, "How Does Pressure Affect Air?" We have been experimenting with the idea of air pressure at sea level versus the air pressure at the top of a mountain.
In math we are talking about proportional relationships. Students worked on enlarging a piece of a mystery mascot to create a dragon. We will be talking about how much smaller the original mural is compared to our new enlarged mural next week.

Social Studies
We have finished up our studies of Ancient Egypt, and next week we will begin to look at Ancient India. We had Ms. Beth, a docent from San Jose Museum of Art, visit us on Friday to share with us the art of Early Man, Mesopotamia, and Ancient Egypt. She will return on Friday, February 26, to share with us the art of Ancient Greece, Ancient China, and Ancient Rome. The students were very engaged and respectful listeners!

Language Arts
We are making excellent progress with our informational writings! Beyond learning to research, we have covered a number of ways that writers organize and present informational text. We also practiced writing leads using different approaches to see which lead was preferred.
We are coming to the end of Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH. Next week we will prepare for our Socratic seminar which will be held on Thursday, Feb 11. We will then compare and contrast the novel with the animated movie.
Literature Circles will also be starting next week!
