SPANISH
We are starting a new project titled "Me Gusta..." This project will be worked on in class the week of Jan 20-23. Students are working with partners and will probably need to meet after school as well. Outside school time will depend on how much work they get done in class. The students have been given a rubric and an instruction sheet for the project. The due date for the project will be Jan 29th. The purpose of this project is to make a skid in Spanish with words that they already know. I would prefer if students use simple sentences that they can translate by themselves vs complicated sentences that will require them to use Google. If you have any questions please let me know. In conjunction to this project, they will be revising the "ser and estar" verbs. We will spend 10-15 min each meeting with this concept that has been very challenging for them. They will not be tested on these anytime soon but it's good practice for them.

MATH
Students are working with decimals, fractions and percentages. In addition to understanding what each concept means, we continue to discuss the relationship between these concepts and when it is more advantageous to use one of these concepts over another!
Students have until January 30th to finish their Stanford course to be included in our pizza party celebration on February 6th . . . eleven students have finished this endeavor.
Science Alive @ Gavilan College on February 7th is a great opportunity to explore STEM subjects. Extra credit in math will be given to any student who attends this workshop and writes a paragraph about their experience.

Social Studies
We have now moved into our studies if Ancient India. The students have learned of eight key geographical features of the Indian subcontinent. There will be a test on Chapter 13, Geography and the Early Settlement of India, next Wednesday, Jan. 21. I highly encourage every student to sign onto their online TCI subscription at www.learn.tci to review the chapter and take the Reading Challenge.
Language Arts
We are continuing with our reading of, Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH. Feel free to ask your child about what has transpired in the story so far. The more book talk, the better. We will soon be making comparisons between this class novel and the Hero's Journey.
We have started our next unit of Greek and Latin roots and have continued our study of grammar. Some students still continue to struggle with parts of speech. Remember there are grammar games to play under the drop down Language Arts tab under grammar.

A Special Note From Ms. Mosher . . .
I want to thank all of you for your generosity this Christmas. I loved all the gift cards, notes, hugs, candy, donations to the Nick fund, and home-made goods. I feel so fortunate to work here at CSMH with your children!
Fondly,
Lori Mosher
