Class Updates:
Social Studies
We had a wonderful time learning and exploring the Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum. Thank you to all of our field trip drivers: Colleen. Alger, Saori Fujita, Kristin Harman, Chris Roberts, Laura Rubio, Christine Taylor, Joy. Hauge, Dawn Torres, Carrie Knopf, Heidi Frisby, Amy Lang,Diane Persing, Shani Verdon, Liz Bolton and Tara Carlson.
As you can see it takes a lot of parent help to make these field trips happen for the students! This was our first field trip this year that needed all drivers to have cleared fingerprints on file with the school. I appreciate everyone's patience as we worked though our new process. As many parents experienced, sometimes the fingerprinting clearance comes through in a matter of hours, days, or it can take weeks. If you have not yet been fingerprinted, I highly recommend that you do this now for any future filed trips. Finger printing is only required once, and the clearance stays on file. Livescan forms can be downloaded from our school website.

Language Arts
We have continued with our class novel, Mrs Frisby and the Rats of NIMH. The students are enjoying the story as they are leaning that the rats of NIMH are not your everyday run-of-the-mill rats.

MATH
Test on Tuesday! Concepts include adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing fractions. Some review concepts include adding and subtracting integers, locating points on a number line, coordinate graph, and identifying the quadrant of a point in a quadrant. Study guides were handed out before winter break and we have spent all week reviewing these concepts. Today I handed out a study sheet on adding and subtracting fractions with unlike denominators . . . most students are in need of some extra practice on this concept.
HAS YOUR CHILD RETURNED THE MASON JAR THEIR COOKIE MIXTURE CAME HOME IN BEFORE THE HOLIDAYS? Reusing these jars really helps to make this project affordable! Any extra quart mason jars around your home??? Donations greatly appreciated!
SCIENCE
As we continue to work through our weather and water study unit, students did an investigation on air today. New vocabulary included: COMPRESSION, EXPANSION AND PRESSURE. We will continue to work through this investigation next week.

SPANISH
It's great to be back at school. The students are working on doing an interview with a partner in class. They will present this week and will continue to work on asking questions in Spanish. Next week they will have to answer questions on a worksheet in Spanish. They will also, translate a simple Q&A interview written by me. They are excited to use their Spanish! Homework was assigned late this week. It is due on Tuesday Jan. 12TH.
A NOTE FROM MS. MOSHER
I want to extend my warmest appreciation for the many thoughtful Holiday gifts I received. You and your children’s generosity and kindness makes our school community a very special place. I hope you enjoyed your child’s Holiday Owl. Glitter just makes everything seem more special! We will continue with our regular art curriculum in February. If you are on campus, please stop by the art room inside the multi-purpose room to see what we have been working on.
Best regards,
Lori
