Math
This week we started working on analyzing portions. Fractions, decimals and percents were introduced. While adding and subtracting fractions is a fifth grade concept, many students are struggling/ forgetting to find the common denominator. Opportunities in the home to practice these skills will be helpful!
We are also working with integers. This week's anchor problem involves solving problems to get clues to help discover the answer to the mystery about "Pete's Pet."
OTHER INFO:
Feliz Año Nuevo! Hello Parents, this week we are finalizing our verb conjugation. We are learning how to conjugate -er verbs. After this week we will work on all three types of conjugation. The three types are -er. -ar, and ir. This will be our concentration for this week and next week. I will assess -er conjugation on Monday Jan 12 to make sure that the students are understanding the concept.
If you have any questions, please email Mrs. Hossain at ehossain@csmh.org.

- Today's quiz will come home on Monday. Students will have until Wednesday to make corrections and get a parent's signature. This is a MANDATORY homework assignment.
- Just a reminder . . . TenMarks is due every Saturday. These skills help to reinforce learning in the classroom.
- Calling all cookie jars! Please help to keep this project affordable every year. After making your cookies, students should return their jars to Room 6 to get their 10 points of homework credit. Any donations of extra mason jars you have around the house would be appreciated!

This week we started our second classroom novel, Mrs Frisby and the Rats of Nimh. The students are busy reading this book in class and getting to know the characters and setting. The students also just drafted and published a characterization paragraph explaining the character traits of Mrs. Frisby. We are busy practicing supporting our thinking with examples and evidence from the text. Students that did not complete their paragraph in class, need to finish it this weekend at home. They are due at the beginning of class on Monday along with their graphic organizer and rough draft.
