Smarter Balanced Testing Next Week!
Next week we begin testing in the computer lab. It is important that your child get to school on time every day. If your child is sick and absent, they will need to make up the testing in the computer lab the following week. For your info, here are the days that subjects will be tested:
Monday and Wednesday - Math
Tuesday, Thursday and Friday - Language Arts
While we know your child will do his/her best on this test, please remember that their scores do not reflect all the different talents that make your child unique! These scores do not reflect your child's artistic and creative gifts. Nor do they measure your child's ability to work in a group situation and produce a product that is innovative! The testing periods are long, two hour slots that measure endurance and perseverance! It is very helpful that your child gets a good rest each night and comes to school calm and well fed! Please make sure that they bring a healthy snack, as well!

No Homework club next week for 6th grade!
Due to testing, your sixth grader will have limited homework next week! Thus, no need for Homework Club. It will resume the week of May 4th. The last week of Homework Club this academic school year is May 25th!

Dear CSMH parents:
Teacher Appreciation Week was beyond wonderful. It is because of your generous hearts that we see the same hearts reflected in our students. Our CSMH family makes teaching a gift!
Words of appreciation are not enough,

Classroom Updates
Language Arts
We have continued reading, Tuck Everlasting, and have made excellent progress with this story. We have also just started our last Literature Circle books of the school year. Each child was assigned a book, and they will be reading this book as part of a small group over the next three weeks. As in the past, it is very important that each student completes their assigned reading and the corresponding paper, being fully prepared for the small group meetings. Literature Circle meetings are scheduled for: Wednesday, May 6; Friday, May 8; Tuesday May 12; Friday, May 15; and Friday, May 22. Friday, May 22 is the day after Spring Exhibition. With a week to complete the work, the students should not be leaving it for Thursday night! I do try to give the students time to read in class so they should be keeping their books with them.
For the Literature Circles, we had a great selection of novels to choose from. Students are reading one of the following books: The Shadow Thief, Pegasus, Story Thieves, Wrinkle in Time, The Trojan War, The Odyssey, and The Lightning Thief. Yes, we are enjoying fantasy and epic tales!
Social Studies
We are busy working on our PBL project and answering the question, " How Does Ancient Greece Benefit and Enrich Our Life Today?" Please look here next week for a link to Volunteer Sign-up to help with various aspect of our Greek Feast and Olympics. Both of these will be held Wednesday, May 20. We will need 12 parents to help run events at the Olympics 8:00 - 11:30 and to provide food items for the feast (menu still to be determined by the agriculture group).
