Charleston Wrap Fundraiser is Coming to an End ...
To the Parent of 6th, 7th and 8th grade student-
This is the final week for the Charleston Wrap catalog fundraiser-deadline is Monday, Oct 12th for both on-line and manual orders. As a reminder, all the profits from this fundraiser will go to help defer the costs of their trip to Washington DC which takes place in the spring of 8th grade. Students in the 6th and 7th grade will bank their earned profit for their trip in subsequent years. The profit is 50% on most sales so this is a chance your students to really generate some money towards their trip! The easiest way to encourage them to ask friends and family to order on-line atwww.charestonwrap.com (School ID# is 9260). Students should register on line first and receive a 6-digit code to make sure they receive credit for their specific on-line sales. Remember, on-line orders over $75, ship for free! All products will be delivered mid-November in time for the Thanksgiving break.
If you have any questions, you can email me directly at [email protected].
Thanks,
Rebecca Santos, Volunteer Parent

ART
i want to thank Mrs Funke for donating gourds from the garden to 6th grade art.
And a huge shout out to the Storlie family for cutting each gourd in half for all of 6th grade.
Just wait until you see the wonderful birds that will be created!
SPANISH
Hello Spanish Student Parent,
The students are going strong building their "Dia de los Muertos Altar" They are super excited and are giving it all. The next step will be to write a three paragaph page on what they learned about Dia de los Muertos and about the person they are remembering with their altar. This has to be done in Spanish. We will also start working on -IR verb conjugation next week.
MATH
Sixth graders took their first math assessment! This assessment evaluated students' understanding of integers. They were required to solve problems both in problem solving situations and "naked number" structures. Students were required to evaluate value of numbers, solve problems involving absolute value and compare values. The average grade was 86.7%! My goal was 80%!
Students will bring home exams next week. They are required to make corrections and get a parent signature.Your signature indicates that you have reviewed the test and students have corrected and explained mistakes to you! These tests will be due back next Thursday, October 15th!
We will be doing major review work these next two weeks in math before we go to camp. Students will be tackling their personal assignments in Ten Marks and taking a fifth grade benchmark retake on Monday, October 26th.
SCIENCE
Today's lab explored heating and cooling air . . . a hot air balloon ride peaked our curiosity!

Social Studies
We are busy exploring the rise of the Sumerian City-States. In groups we are working with our fellow Mesopotamians to determine the best solutions to the many problems that we face as a village. Survival is our challenge!
Language Arts
We just finished Boy of the Painted Cave! What a great ending to this story. We have started looking at the Hero's Journey and how our class novel connects to the monomyth.
Next week we will begin building our own cave and adorning it with cave art that shows the connection between the book and the Hero's Journey. We will also be starting our first literature circles and preparing for our first Socratic seminar. As busy week is ahead!
