Happy Odd Day!Today 11-13-15 is the last odd day of this century. Odd days are days when the calendar features three consecutive uneven numbers like today's 11-13-15 In all there are six odd days every 100 years. The next one will be on January 3, 2105. Can you find the remaining four odd days? . It has been a very busy week!Conferences started this week and will continue next week as well. Next week is a minimum day week as we will be conferencing in the afternoon. Conferences start in room 105 with Ms. Daprile and then finish in room 106 with Ms. Williams. As the meetings are scheduled every ten minutes please be prompt.
We really enjoy getting the opportunity to speak with every parent. Thank you for all of your support.

Come Play in the Mud! We have spaces available for our 6th grade Auction Teacher Treat! This is your child's chance to be creative and get their hands messy! We are hosting a two part ceramics class. This afterschool ceramics gathering is for any student that wants to create with clay. The first meeting to hand-build a creation (sand castle, bird, fish, etc.) will be on Monday March 14; the second class to paint and glaze will be on Monday, April 4th. Let your creativity flourish! 9 spots available! The cost is $50.00 per child. Checks can be made payable to CSMH Foundation and would need to be received by next Tuesday 11/10/15 as the auction committee needs to close out their system and report their numbers to the board. Checks can be turned into Ms. Nancy. Please email Ms. Daprile ([email protected]) your name and email address when you sign up. 28th Annual Tech ChallengeEvery year the Tech Museum sponsors an engineering challenge. Last year CSMH had two sixth grade teams. Parents act as advisers for this project. If you are interested in organizing a team and would like information, please visit: http://www.thetech.org/tech-challenge-presented-emc This is a great opportunity if your child is looking for a challenge! Conferences Begin Next WeekBecause we would like to meet with each sixth grade parent, we are beginning conferences next week after school. The following week we will continue to meet with parents during minimum days. These conferences are for parents and teachers. We are not requiring students to attend. If you have not signed up for a conference, please click: Volunteer Spot to sign up! Thank You Camp Campbell DriversWe truly appreciate all your help transporting campers and luggage. It was a great experience! MATH AND SCIENCE This past week we finished up integer games and did some camp math.We worked on figuring out how much it cost to feed all the campers last week. We also calculated the number of steps it would take to "hike" to school! This project was inspired by Ms. Mosher's shoe art. We will be starting Silicon Valley Math unit on fractions and decimals. In Science, we will begin a FOSS unit called "Weather and Water". So many fun experiments to look forward to with these new materials. Language Arts
We have completed our last Literature Circle meeting that is devoted to discussing the novels. I have heard some wonderful book discussions! Next week the students will be working with their group to create a project that will help them present their book to the class. Their projects, created in the classroom, are to be informative, engaging, and creative! Students are working in class on writing a personal narrative. As we work through the writing process, we explore and examine mentor text to learn about a variety of writing crafts and writing techniques to help us become better writers. We have started a new Greek and Latin Root unit. The quiz on this will be next Friday, Nov. 13. Social Studies We have finished up our first unit, Early Humans and the Rise of Civilization, and have now moved onto Ancient Egypt and the Middle East. This is always a favorite unit as we will be learning about the ancient Egyptian pharaohs, the pyramids, and the origins of Judaism. WATCH OUT CAMP CAMPBELL, |
